October 16 – October 24, 2024: In the final stretch of the 2024 presidential election season, STF chapters hosted a variety of impactful events aimed at raising awareness and engaging students in human rights. From mock elections at schools like Alain Leroy Locke, Animo Venice, and New Roads to a mental health initiative at Carson High School, STF members educated their peers on key human rights issues and the importance of civic participation. These events fostered a sense of community and empowerment among students, encouraging them to take an active role in shaping their future.

October 16, 2024: Partnering with the Peer Wellness Club to acknowledge Mental Health Awareness Month, STFers at Carson HS hosted a chalk event. Participants wrote messages of support and anti-bullying slogans in front of the textbook room. Dozens of students contributed drawings and even some teachers joined in the event! October 18, 2024: The STF Chapter at Alain LeRoy Locke College Preparatory Academy hosted more than 250 students for a mock election. History classes learned about the importance of voting through a human rights lens and about California Propositions 3, 5 and 6. October 22, 2024: STFers at Animo Venice Charter High School had students from four homeroom classes vote in a mock election! Student leaders educated their classmates on what it means to vote with a human rights lens, California Propositions 3 & 5, Los Angeles Measure A, and federal Senate candidates. This event simulated a real life voting experience, giving participants a chance to practice exercising their right to vote. Photo by Caroline Andrews

October 23-24, 2024: During an all school Town Hall presentation, New Roads STFers educated their entire upper school campus on the candidates for LA District Attorney and President of the United States. They also spoke about Propositions 6, 32 and 36. The next day, more than 90% of the upper school voted in the mock election. Photo by Kristin Ghazarians
