March 21 – April 2, 2025: STFers from Carson and Van Nuys HS combined education, creativity, and action to deepen their community’s understanding of human rights issues. From raising awareness of Genocide Awareness and Prevention Month with an interactive garden-themed event, to facilitating meaningful conversations around houselessness through the Protect the Unhoused Action Plan, STFers demonstrated the importance of bridging classroom learning with community action.

March 21, 2025: Carson STFers hosted an educational and recruitment event to raise awareness about genocide prevention, featuring trivia, a poster presentation, and a collaboration with the Garden Club. The event highlighted food sovereignty as a form of resilience and resistance, inspired by Cambodian genocide survivors in Long Beach who use gardening to heal and preserve cultural heritage. Participants painted mini flower pots and were invited to a follow-up meeting with hands-on planting activities.
