March 14, 2025: Santa Monica HS became the most recent STF Chapter to host a screening of “Swept” and Q&A discussion with Human Rights Watch’s John Raphling.

After receiving background knowledge about the Protect the Unhoused Action Plan, the audience was excited to discuss the topic with Mr. Raphling and learn more about local advocacy opportunities within Santa Monica. At the end of each period, STFers introduced their petition to the Santa Monica City Council. By the close of the event, more than 114 people had signed the petition.

Congratulations for persevering and hosting a productive event!

The STF Team wants to share some important lessons learned from the first four screening events that are important for every Chapter hosting an event to remember:

  • Use the Film Screening Resources to help organize and plan your event
  • Test your tech set up (speakers, projector, screen, can you play the film from YouTube?, Zoom, etc.)
  • Give yourself enough time to set up the seating for your audience
  • Communicate the schedule with teachers who have signed up to bring their classes
  • Have a backup plan if the space you reserved isn’t available
  • Have a backup plan if a guest speaker is unable to attend day-of
  • Contact the STF Team with any questions or troubleshooting advice!
