Name: Geneva H.

School: Mira Costa HS

Graduation Year: 2027

STF Title: President

STF Member Since: Aug. 2024

STF Team: Why did you join STF?

Geneva: STF sparked my interest when I took a human geography class. We discussed human rights, so I wanted to bring more Human Rights Education to my school. We are currently working on the Protect the Unhoused and Genocide Awareness and Prevention Action Plans.

STF Team: What has your experience been like since joining? Has your Chapter hosted any recent events?

Geneva: It has been eye opening and now I understand more about the houselessness crisis in LA and about genocide. Recently, we partnered with Hope4Hygiene [a campus club that assembles and donates hygiene kits for the unhoused in Los Angeles] to screen Swept. Now, we are working with our school board to raise awareness and host a school-wide film screening for Genocide Awareness and Prevention month in April.

STF Team: What goals and leadership skills do you hope to achieve with STF?

Geneva: I want to continue improving on public speaking. I want to be able to speak up on more matters and voice my opinion even more strongly.

STF Team: What’s one thing future and current STF members should know?

Geneva: People are going to have different viewpoints, but it is important to stand up in solidarity, especially for those that can’t stick up for themselves.

STF Team: Would you recommend other students to join STF?

Geneva: 100% yes. With the possible changes in education, it might be more difficult to get human rights education. There may be censorship within our education system, so I think it is really important to learn about human rights and join organizations like STF.
