March 31 – April 29, 2025: In the final weeks of on-campus advocacy, STFers from Canyon, Carson, Da Vinci, Hamilton, Palisades Charter, and Wauwatosa East high schools have been busy hosting events advocating for STF’s Protect the Unhoused and Genocide Awareness and Prevention Month Action Plans. From film screenings to scavenger hunts and powerful tent exhibits, STFers continue to educate their peers and inspire action.
Next steps include collecting petition signatures to urge mayors and city council officials to end the sweeps and the criminalization of unhoused people, as well as encouraging schools to pledge to honor Genocide Awareness and Prevention Month in future years.

March 31 – April 14, 2025: In honor of Genocide Awareness and Prevention Month, Canyon STFers went to History and English classes to give presentations about genocide using STF’s case study examples. April 2-3, 2025: By delivering six powerful in-class presentations, Hamilton High School STFers educated their peers on the fundamental right to adequate housing and the urgent need to decriminalize homelessness. In addition to their leadership team, Hamilton included two general members in the presentations, empowering students to take on leadership roles. Through this approach, they provided HRW STF with a clear example of how to engage and develop future leaders on campus!

April 10, 2025: Palisades Charter HS hosted a screening of the Emmy-nominated short documentary Swept, which features the horrific nature of sweeps conducted by the Los Angeles government officials. After the film, three LA housing advocates spoke on a panel where the audience asked questions about solutions and next steps. Then, the guests stayed for a dinner. Photo by Madeleine W.

April 10, 2025: Da Vinci STFers hosted an in-class presentation and screening of the Emmy-nominated documentary, Swept. Students highlighted the importance of education and dialogue in addressing the criminalization of unhoused individuals in Los Angeles, emphasizing the need for empathy, justice, and actionable solutions. Students also partnered with their school’s counselors and administration to collect on-campus resources for students and families who might be facing housing insecurity.

April 17, 2025: Wauwatosa East HS hosted an interactive scavenger hunt that doubled as a recruitment event. Students teamed up to answer 15 questions using the Protect the Unhoused toolkit, learning about housing justice while racing to the finish. Prizes went to the top three teams, making it a fun and meaningful way to build community and raise awareness. Photo by Sadie K.

April 29, 2025: In collaboration with STFers at Harvard Westlake and Mira Costa, Carson STFers discussed current events, background information of genocide and the Genocide against Palestinians and Rohingya case studies with 280 classmates in honor of April’s Genocide Awareness and Prevention Month. The goal of the exhibit was to educate others, raise awareness, and foster meaningful discussions about genocide as essential steps in preventing future atrocities. By confronting these difficult truths, we empower communities to recognize early warning signs, stand in solidarity with victims, and advocate for justice and human rights. Photo by Rosalinda Ruiz.
