Taking the Human Rights Temperature of Your School Survey

While you are speaking with administrators and building a strong coalition of partners on campus, your STF Chapter can begin revising the Taking the Human Rights Temperature of Your School survey. As you bring in new allies, share the survey with them and ask them to review these same questions so everyone’s input is included for the final version of the survey:
- What edits do you want to make to the existing questions? Is anything phrased in a way that is easily understandable? Everything should either be positively or negatively stated, and the measurement scale should be consistent throughout the entire survey.
- Which issues are most important to your school community? – Consider reviewing the UDHR and CRC for additional topics.
- Climate sustainability and efficiency
- Undocumented or immigrant students/teachers/families
- Unhoused/housing insecurity
- LGBTQIA+
- Freedom of speech/assembly
- Book bans
- Mental health support
- Access to period products
- Aspects of your education that need to be addressed
- What is the best way to distribute the survey to everyone on campus to ensure all voices are included?
- Can the survey be sent to everyone directly from the school administrators?
- If not, can your coalition work with a group of teachers to have them survey students in their classes?
- If not, can student groups survey their members and peers individually?
- Each school may have their own way of circulating surveys to their own community. Reach out to the STF Team if you need help identifying methods for circulating the survey.
