As you develop your SBRR, it will be critical for every Chapter to identify allies amongst students, clubs, faculty, parents and other relevant groups where appropriate.
Relationships can be powerful drivers of change. Engaging students, teachers, and parents helps create a campus with shared responsibility and action. Remember, HRW’s Advocacy Director for Children’s Rights said, “When we join together, we can be more powerful. We unite our voices. We’re harder to ignore. We have more credibility. We can take advantage of each others’ strengths and we can expand our ability to do the work.”
Developing an SBRR requires input from everyone invested in the success of your school. To ensure your document addresses the issues that matter most to your community, build a coalition of students, teachers, and (when appropriate) parents that is inclusive and invites people outside of STF and your friend circle to share their thoughts. We’ve created a resource to guide you in your outreach and forming meaningful alliances as you continue to develop your SBRR.
For additional recommendations check out the “Building Student, Teacher and Parent Allies” resources in the Student Bill of Responsibilities and Rights toolkit or reach out to the STF Team for support.
Ever Onward,
