STF Chapters from Animo Venice Charter, Corona Del Mar, Hamilton, International School of Prague, and Palisades Charter high schools have met with school administrators to launch the creation of their Student Bill of Responsibilities and Rights at each campus.

Chapters are building meaningful partnerships with decision makers who can help turn their vision into lasting policy change. STFers from Animo Venice Charter, Corona Del Mar, Hamilton, International School of Prague, and Palisades Charter high schools are collaborating with school administrators to draft their Student Bill of Responsibilities and Rights to help their campuses become more human rights friendly.

School administrators make excellent allies by offering guidance, institutional knowledge, and support to ensure student voices are heard and valued. STF Co-President Jade, from Hamilton High School, shared how their Chapter invited a school administrator to join their on-campus meeting:

“We relied heavily on our teacher advisor to help us get our school administrator who focuses on restorative justice, Mr. Oliver, to join! We were able to share our goals and plans with him and ask for his insight and ideas. He advised us to follow up with other administrators and to CC our supporters on those emails so everyone stays accountable for responding.”

As you reach out to administrators and allies, remember to tailor your message to your audience so you get the most helpful feedback and engagement. There are recommended questions and talking points in the SBRR toolkit. You can also check out the FAQ page, which includes the below discussion from the Fall Leadership Workshop of Palisades Charter HS’s principal sharing how students can put administrators at ease when asking for their support on their SBRR.

Executive Director and Principal of Palisades Charter High School, Dr. Pam Magee, shares advice for people in administrative positions that help them overcome feelings of personal critique.
